To rent or buy ... that was the question.

Found myself moving back in with my folks for a few months. Ready to start another chapter in my life. So the big question was how long could any of us stand living together and what were my plans for living arrangements in the near future?

Started out looking at rental houses, apartments and a couple town houses. I had a small budget so my choices were very slim in nice areas. All the while looking I was saving money for deposits and such. Somewhere along the way I decided if I searched hard enough maybe I could find a house to buy.

My very own house to do whatever I wanted to do with it. The search was on again ... The first was a serious fixer upper. But with lots of potential and not really a whole lot of money would be needed to be spent fixing it up. As in all things not meant to be ... There was a hitch. We put the offer in at 12,000 over so there would be money available for repairs. The seller refused it? WTH? We were not even asking them to make the repairs. Whatever ...

On to number two. I thought it had potential my Mom walked in and said no. We had walked around the back yard and when we entered the house through the kitchen door that was it. She said it just didn't feel right, the floor had a slat, the kitchen needed to be totally torn out and I think the master bath was creepy. Her words not mine. There was another house up the road, we had passed for sale, we asked to look at.

Enter house three. 10,000 dollars cheaper than the one we had just looked at but a million dollars more in appeal. Actually, but for a broken off drawer front, the house was move in ready. Kept up nicely and there was plenty of things that could be done along the way to increase the resale value of it. But they could all wait and be done after a few dollars were saved one project at a time.

After walking around out and inside it was a done deal. Not quiet a ah ha moment but pretty close. We walked out the door and asked the realtor to put in a bid. Stopped by the bank for earnest money and waited for the paper work to be sent electronically for me to sign and my Mom to witness. Let the fun begin.
